take air in as a normal physiological process.

Pea sprout extracts have been proven to stimulate specific signal molecules in the dermal papilla required to reactivate hair growth.  A clinical study demonstrated that the proportion of active hair follicles to degenerating ones could be improved from 4 to 7.2 to a 78% increase in hair growth in just three months, proving that this a natural and sustainable contributor to fuller and thicker hair. Organic pea sprouts successfully offer a sustainable and novel approach to fight hair loss.

CBD does not cure hair loss, at least not directly. Certain forms of alopecia including male and female pattern baldness are genetic conditions that CBD will simply have no effect on. Until science identifies the genes responsible for hair loss, the next best thing we can do is take better care of the hair that we have.

Peer reviewed research published in the Journal of Drugs and Dermatology has confirmed what most of us have known for years. Stress, and the hormone cortisol that it produces, disrupts hair growth. Not only does it disrupt hair growth, but it can also lead to increased shedding. For those who suffer with various forms of alopecia, the hair does not grow back.

A recent study in The Permanente Journal found clinical evidence suggest CBD can help with anxiety. Sleep improved for two thirds of the study participants as a result. Sleep is of course crucial to mental health in the same way that mental health is crucial to sleep. Good sleep and good mental health are obviously crucial to lowering overall stress levels. While definitely not a panacea, it is clear that CBD could at least slow or even halt some of the less obvious causes of hair loss such as stress and anxiety.

CBD oil may also improve the condition of existing hair in the same way that a healthy, balanced diet would. And while we do not advocate a poor diet, CBD may represent as a supplement for those who have difficulties with healthy eating.

Overly Processed Hair

Many would find it hard to admit how much they abuse their hair. Overly processed hair is usually the result of abuse (or incorrect use) of perming and heat styling tools, relaxers, and bleaching agents. The end result is dry and frizzy hair that lacks shine and tangles easily. But CBD may be able to help. In a 2015 study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology on female hair loss, CBD oil was shown to increase hair density and hair diameter. This gave the appearance of fuller, healthier looking locks. CBD was able to achieve these results because it is rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Both are crucial to overall health and well-being, but are not produced naturally by the body.Although not explicitly stated in the 2015 report, similar studies into other oils high in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are thought to play in role in protecting hair by:

  • Preventing too much water uptake by the hair follicle.
  • Helping prevent the absorption of harmful substances into hair follicles.
  • Enhancing lubrication of the hair shaft, reducing the chance of breakage.
  • Preventing hair breakage by reducing the combing force of wet hair.

Hot tip: hydrating (but not too hydrating) CBD hair masks can be used to restore overly processed hair that is weak and damaged. Some can be combed into dry hair and left overnight before rinsing out in the shower the following morning.

Conclusion

The next time you find yourself in the haircare aisle of your supermarket, look for products that contain CBD.

CBD is an excellent treatment for scalp health because of its power in addressing common problems that affect our scalp. A healthy scalp, as we have seen, is linked to healthy looking hair. So choose a CBD-based product and you can basically get two products in one.

Unfortunately, CBD is not effective at treating alopecia. However, it can reduce the severity of a number of environmental factors that can expedite the occurrence or worsening of Alopecia. It can also improve the look of pre-existing hair.

The fatty acid content of CBD may also help rescue overly processed hair by stopping water and harmful substances entering the hair follicles and making them more resilient to stress.
